About the Event
Serenity Hill, Inc., a Georgia non-profit and IRS 501(c)(3) organization, opened the doors to The Cottage on July 12, 2018 to provide a wide-range of services to victims of trauma, crime, and abuse in the Coastal Georgia region, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year.
In the 26 months since we have opened our doors, our all-volunteer staff has provided services to 316 individuals. More than 85% of these individuals were CHILD victims.
Our services are provided FREE of charge.
We are the ONLY victim service center in Bryan County, Georgia.
We receive only 15% of the designated county victim funds, despite the fact that we are the ONLY victim service agency in the entire county.
We primarily serve victims and families in an 8-county region in the Coastal Georgia region, but we will provide services to anyone, from anywhere, who contacts our facility requesting services.
We are the ONLY victim service center in at least an 8-county region with a qualified pediatric medical-forensic provider.
Services provided at The Cottage include but are not limited to crisis intervention, victim advocacy, trauma assessments, mental health counseling services, specialized medical-forensic care and services, assisting victims and families with filing for state crime victims compensation program benefits, assisting victims with the paperwork to secure temporary orders of protection, community outreach and education, professional outreach and education, prevention initiatives, and many other types of victim and community assistance. We also offer telehealth and telecounseling options.
In January 2020, more than $20,000 was spent to upgrade a much larger, ADA compliant facility in Richmond Hill. After placing the substantial amount of money into the space, the landlord has decided to sell the unit in which The Cottage is housed for $200,000.
COVID-19 has seriously impacted our fundraising capabilities. For that reason, it is impossible for us to raise the minimum $40,000 down payment to purchase a building to which we just made over $20,000 in upgrades to ensure victims and their families had a welcoming environment in which to seek services after a devastating trauma.
Obviously, there is a need for the valuable and scarcely available services we provide to so many in Coastal Georgia. So many innocent children and their families have benefitted from the services provided at The Cottage.
Commercial property (particularly property that will meet our needs) is difficult to come by in Richmond Hill and Bryan County as a whole. If we are not able to quickly secure the cash required to purchase the property, we will lose our building and be required to permanently close our doors.
